Closed cell materials are manufactured with air bubbles trapped within the material. The trapped air increases the insulation capability, resist liquid water, and create a stronger and denser material.

This type of material reduces liquid and gas flow, making it ideal for sealing. Closed cell materials are great for industries in which liquid resistance is essential, such as marine, HVAC, and automotive.

A disadvantage of closed cell material is that the requirement of more material can cause it to be more expensive. Closed cell materials are suggested for barriers such as gaskets, vibration dampeners, mounting pads, bumpers, spacers and seals.

Applications

Closed cell sponges are ideal for applications requiring a physical barrier such as gaskets, vibration dampeners, isolators, mounting pads, bumpers and spacers, seals and weather stripping. We’re experienced in the manufacture of parts incorporating many types of closed cell sponge material, including:

  • Neoprene
  • EPDM
  • Nitrile
  • PVC foam
  • Silicone
  • Polyethylene
  • Cross-linked polyethylene
  • EVA
  • Low permeability
  • ECH
  • Viton
  • Vinyl nitrile
  • SBR
  • Flurosilicone
