On January 20th, our employees and their families got together to fish, have fun and enjoy the beautiful Lake Auburn in Victoria, Minnesota for our 2018 AFP Ice Fishing Contest.
Our contest took place during a balmy 40°F Saturday. Employees and their families reeled in perch, sunfish and crappies from 10 am to 2 pm until arms were sore and toes were numb. And just 20 minutes after the contest ended, the only northern pike of the day (at over eight pounds) was pulled in.
But we didn’t get together just to fish. We created this event as a way to give back to our community. Every family brought in canned food items to donate to our local food shelf in Chaska, just ten minutes down the road from our headquarters.
We also had plenty of prizes to win. All employees received five prize tickets right away, every two cans donated were worth an additional ticket, and anyone who caught a fish was given one ticket per catch (our 10-ticket northern pike prize went unclaimed).
We had more than 50 prizes to give out, totaling over $2000. Prizes included two power augers, rod and reel combos, a grill, $300 cash and more.
At the end of the day, all prizes were won, families had a great time, and food items donated totaled over 700 pounds! We can’t wait until next year.
